The Women’s Cell of Abhayapuri College was started in the year 2006 with the aim of empowering and orienting women to recognize their true potential and to help them carve their own niche in a competitive world.
Objectives
- To safeguard the rights of female students, faculty and staff members of the college.
- To promote the empowerment of female students and teachers through different educational programmes both formal and nonformal.
- To create awareness about policies and laws that addresses the issue of sexual harassment.
- To focus on gender sensitization of our young women.
- To provide an environment free of gender-based discrimination.
- To give a platform to young women to voice their thoughts and opinions and to share their experiences.
- To develop the self-confidence of women and awareness about women welfare laws.
- To organize seminars, workshops relating to women development.
Action Plan
- To conduct exhibition of Art & handicrafts by the women of nearby villages to create awareness about their status and dignity.
- To organise Self Defence Training Programme among the girl students of the college to enable them to defend against any type of physical assault.
- To organise workshops and lectures to promote awareness relating to women centric issues, disseminating information regarding legal rights and policies as well as about support systems.
- To conduct personality development programmes, short term career-oriented courses for women to equip them to meet the challenges of the modern day.
- To celebrate Women’s Day every year with day long programmes that create awareness among students as also the Regular public.
Activities
The activities of the cell include promoting awareness relating to women centric issues, disseminating information regarding legal rights and policies as well as about support systems. Ensuring that the educational institution and work environment is free from cases of sexual harassment. Conducting different training programme like Fruit Preservation to create a new avenue of livelihood for the girl students of the college. Various lecture programme on Child labour, pre marital counselling, women empowerment, women’s health and hygiene, Celebrated International Women’s Day, Organised workshop on mental health, social awareness on women empowerment and human trafficking through cartoons and comics, Organised a signature campaign week on Breast Cancer, awareness programme on sexual harassment. Celebrated National Girl Child Day etc. “Aradhya” a book published by the cell relating to different women issues.
